OF THE ANC, THE STATE AND THE REVOLUTION: THE CASE OF MACUFE CUP 2022

  1. One of the fundamental reasons behind the collapse of the Soviet Union was the infiltration of private business interests in the state and the Party.
  2. Whilst many private entities have, over the years, used the Macufe brand for marketing own activities, the events surrounding this year’s cup must serve as a lesson to the ANC and its government.
  3. The use of the corporate identity of Macufe, or any government activity, should be regulated to ensure that the ANC or government is not soiled in unnecessary controversy.
  4. As matters stand, and following the illogical invitation by C-2 for Royal AM to play in the cup, the government and the ANC have clearly suffered reputational damage. Will we be able to recover this?
  5. The Masenkeng Picnic was more of a sign of resistance, not against C-2 per se, but more against the ANC and its government.
  6. The ANC is a liberation movement which seeks to totally liberate the people of South Africa, especially Africans, from political and economic bondages.
  7. To achieve this, the ANC must increase its majority in the state through successful election campaigns.
  8. Any sign of resentment must be addressed, to avoid potential loss of electoral power.
  9. The ANC cannot afford to be resented by the very people it seeks to liberate simply because it seems to endorse a highly divisive project like the Macufe 2022 project.
  10. What is to be done;

10.1 C-2 must be forbidden from using the Macufe brand for their cup. They can even call it Ben Moseme Cup.
10.2 All the private entities like clubs must henceforth apply if they want to use the Macufe Brand. Strict regulations must be applied to ensure the image of the ANC and government are not soiled.
10.3 The ANC must engage all stakeholders, Siwelele fans, soccer lovers, communities, NPOs, etc, on how to better the Macufe brand and festival.

NB. Pictures depict the followers of Bloemfontein Celtic, joined by other soccer lovers (Pirates, Mathaithai, etc) in unison to resist the Macufe Cup 2022. Remember that the Bloemfontein Celtic was founded by freedom fighters. The black fist on their logo is not innocent.
