By Thys Khiba – On Tuesday 21 March, Free State Police with the assistance of the community members have arrested a man and a woman with Mandrax tablets, heroin, and crystal meth in separate incidents.

This comes after police were informed by residents of Kutloanong about a house where drugs are allegedly sold.

At the identified house they met a 29-year-old woman and upon searching the house they found small bags with crystal meth, heroine and cash.

It was discovered that she is a security officer at one of the mines,” said Free State Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng.

In a separate incident, police have managed to arrest another suspect (33) who is transporting drugs from Welkom to Odendaalsrus.

The members spotted the vehicle and the suspect during a way-lay operation. The vehicle was stopped and they found mandraxtablets, heroine also known as nyaope and crystal meth.

A 33-year-old man was arrested. After further investigation, members proceeded to a house in Residensia in Odendaalsruswhere more drugs were found,” said Thakeng.

Police reported that the rented room is used to store these drugs.

Two scales were also seized.

The two suspects who are facing charges of dealing in drugs are expected to appear in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate Court on 23 March 2023.

The Acting District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Brigadier Mzondi Mojafi appreciated the work done by community members of Kutloanong for reporting drug dealers.

“They are destroying our future leaders, which are our young people, with these drugs. We must squeeze the space for them to the point where they will not have any space left to sell drugs,” said Mojafi.
