Ntombela Leads Mother’s Day Prayer Service in Ficksburg, Highlighting Women’s Role in Democracy

Ficksburg, Free State – Former Free State Premier and Deputy President of the African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL), Sefora Ntombela, celebrated Mothers’ Day with a dedicated prayer service held at Caravan Park in Ficksburg on Sunday. The event underscored the essential roles mothers play in families and society, drawing a significant connection between their sacrifices and the broader struggle for democracy in South Africa.

During the special service, Ntombela highlighted the invaluable contribution of mothers to the nation’s fabric, stating, “Today, we gathered in Ficksburg, Setsoto, to celebrate the incredible mothers in our community at a special prayer service.” The presence of local dignitaries, including Mayor Matsela who took a momentary break from her music album recording sessions, added to the event’s significance, showing a unified front in appreciation of mothers.

Ntombela’s words, “A big khombokoto (hip hop hooray!) to all the amazing mothers out there! You are the pillars of our families and communities,” reverberated through the gathering, drawing applause and expressions of shared sentiment.

Moreover, Ntombela connected the celebration with the impending national elections, underscoring the importance of voting as a means to honour the sacrifices of mothers and protect the democracy they helped to build. “As we reflected on the sacrifices and love of mothers, we were also reminded of the importance of our hard-won democracy. With just 17 days until the national elections, let’s honour our mothers’ struggles by exercising our right to vote,” Ntombela urged.

By linking the appreciation for mothers to the civic duty of voting, Ntombela not only celebrated their day but also rallied the community towards active participation in the upcoming elections, aiming to preserve and progress the gains made by South Africa.

The message was clear: electing leaders who will uplift all South Africans, especially mothers, is crucial. “Let’s go out in numbers and defend the gains we’ve made by electing leaders who will uplift all South Africans, especially our mighty mothers,” she added.

The event closed with Ntombela extending Mother’s Day blessings to everyone, emphasising love and appreciation for the matriarchs who shape lives and society.

“Wishing you all a blessed Mother’s Day filled with love and appreciation for the matriarchs in your lives,” were her parting words
