North West Mother and Boyfriend arrested for Murder

Boitekong – A chilling confession by a 31-year-old North West mother has led to the arrest of both her and her 26-year-old boyfriend for the brutal murder of her four-year-old son. The shocking incident occurred in Boitekong, located approximately 8km north of Rustenburg.

Shocking Confession Shakes Community

The mother revealed to community members and a local councillor that she and her boyfriend were responsible for the boy’s death. Subsequently, they buried the toddler in a shallow grave in the bushes near Boitekong. This confession came after mounting suspicions from the residents of Extension 4, who hadn’t seen the child since July 2023.

According to North West Police Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Amanda Funani, the couple allegedly killed the boy before burying him on the outskirts of the town.

“Subsequent to the incident, residents of Extension 4 became suspicious when they did not see the child anymore. According to information, the child was last seen by neighbours in July 2023,” said Funani.

The suspicions led community members to approach their local councillor, who, along with the residents, confronted the mother. Overwhelmed by the questions, the mother allegedly confessed to the crime.

Swift Police Action

Following the confession, the councillor and community members handed over the mother and her boyfriend to the police. They were both promptly charged with murder. North West Police Spokesperson, Col. Malesela Ledwaba, confirmed that the couple was arrested on Thursday evening.

The couple is scheduled to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where they will face formal charges.

Community and Police Collaboration

North West Police Commissioner, Lt. Gen. Sello Kwena, has condemned the heinous crime and lauded the community for their restraint and cooperation with law enforcement.

“He instructed the detectives to do everything in their power to ensure that justice is served,” added Funani. Kwena also congratulated the community for not taking the law into their own hands, thereby ensuring a lawful process.
