By Thys Khiba – There were no injuries reported as a result of a burning of a stationary vehicle on R70, 25km from Senekal towards Ventersburg in Free State on Monday afternoon.
According to one of the occupants of the vehicle, they noticed smoke coming from the car and decided to stop and get out before the vehicle burst into flames. It remains unclear what caused the vehicle to catch fire.
All occupants had safely evacuated the vehicle and were unharmed.
A local volunteer firefighter, Jan de Villiers was called to assist in putting out the blaze.
De Villiers and local volunteers found the burning vehicle fully engulfed in flames and managed to quickly got to work extinguishing the fire.
They were able to bring the flames under control and prevent them from spreading to nearby vegetation by using fire extinguishers and water.
At the time of the incident, no other emergency services were on the scene, but they have been informed and expected to be on route.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, this incident serves as a reminder to always be aware of potential hazards and to take necessary precautions to ensure personal safety.
