Motaung with the support of the EFF Provincial Secretary Malefane Bosanku Msimanga hosted series of Public Consultative meetings in Zamdela, Deneysville and Oranjevilleon Sunday, 15 October, as part of the 100 Days of action in office.

He engaged with community members at Zamdela Municipal Offices (Next to Sonny’s Garage) at 09:00, RefengkgotsoCommunity Hall-Deneysville at 12:00 and MetsimaholoCommunity Hall-Oranjeville at 15:00.

I am very happy to have received fresh views and new ideas directly from communities of Metsimaholo through today’s Public Consultative Meetings of my Human Settlements Department,” said Motaung.

Amongst other issues that were raised by concerned residents relate to urgent residential sites, RDP houses and job creation by the Human Settlement Office.

Speaking to Central News, other frustrated residents complained about incomplete RDP houses that are still at the roofing, wall plate and foundation phases.

“We hope that the EFF will address our issues of housing. Re hloka lefatshe [We need land], my brother,” said frustrated resident Nomvula Tsolo.

Motaung has revealed that his department was disappointed to hear that residents still struggling with incomplete houses.

Speaking to Central News, Motaung said the issue of incomplete houses was one of his sore points.

“My brother, they have complained about provincial government taking them to court without engaging them about the flats residential unit they occupied. They have requested themunicipality to assist them by engaging with provincial government to withdraw the ongoing case.

“They told our municipality to avail municipal land to the landless and also to formalise and upgrade all informal settlements,” Motaung said.

This will also assist the municipality to record a number of unfinished RDP houses and informal settlement in the area.

The Human Settlement meetings comes after newly elected executive mayor and African Independent Congress (AIC) Councillor Jack Malindi appointed new Members of Mayoral Committee (MMCs).

The Democratic Alliance (DA) Councillor Jeff Zwane was removed again from office through a vote of no confidence on Friday, 06 October 2023.

Zwane was removed during a special council No.4 of 2023/2024 meeting, which was held at the Council Chambers (Civic Centre, Sasolburg).

The EFF motion of no confidence against Zwane was supported by 22 councillors against 12  councillors opposing the motion, and 8 ballot papers were spoilt.

At least 42 municipal councillors attended the special meeting to vote through a secret ballot.

“The EFF welcomes the decisive decision by the MetsimaholoLocal Municipality Council to remove corrupt DA Councillor Mr Jeff Zwane as the Executive Mayor of Metsimaholofollowing the motion of no confidence tabled by EFF.

“The Municipality has been under a dark cloud under Zwane’sleadership and the council has heeded the call from the EFF to uproot all forms of corruption and incompetence that was exhibited by Zwane.”
