By Thys Khiba – The Nelson Mandela Foundation Board of Trustees has officially dismissed its outgoing Chief Executive Officer (CEO)Sello Hatang on Thursday, 29 June 2023.
This comes after the board concluded its investigation into complaints from some employees about Hatang.
On 02 May 2023, Hatang announced his resignation as CEO of the foundation. The Board decided to placed Hatang on special leave while the complaints were independently investigated, as he was still serving his notice. The notice period was expected to take three months.
According to the chairman Prof. Njabulo Ndebele, they have received complaints – which centred on Hatang’s personal conduct at the workplace.
“The investigation took careful consideration of the rights of the complaints and Mr Hatang, as well as the Board’s commitment to entrenching the Foundation’s core values of respect and trust.
“After considering the outcomes of the independent investigation, and ensuring that the process had been conducted fairly and without prejudice, the Board concluded that Mr Hatang’s conduct had been unbecoming and was unacceptable for someone in his position and that he should be summarily dismissed,” said Ndebele.
Without getting into the details of Hatang’s conduct, Ndebele indicated that the Board will not comment further on the specifics of the matter.
The Board will now focus on ensuring continuity in the Foundation’s activities. The activities will include Madiba’sbirthday commemorations on 18 July.
The foundation is expected to appoint a new CEO soon.
At the time of publishing this article, Central News could not get a comment from Hatang.
