Namibia to Require Visas for U.S. Tourists from April 2025 as New Entry Rules Take Effect

Namibia

Starting 1 April 2025, U.S. citizens planning to visit Namibia will need to obtain a visa prior to travel, according to a formal notice issued by the U.S. Embassy in Namibia. This marks a significant shift in entry requirements and is part of the Namibian government’s implementation of a new visa-on-arrival system.

Mandatory Visa Requirement for U.S. Visitors

The Namibian government’s new policy mandates that all U.S. tourists apply for a visa in advance or secure one upon arrival at designated entry points. Travellers are urged to use the official online portal at:

eservices.mhaiss.gov.na/visaonarrival

Applicants using this system must print and carry a hard copy of their approval notice when travelling to Namibia. Failure to do so may result in entry delays or denial.

Visa on Arrival Still Possible at Key Ports

Although the advance visa system is encouraged, tourists entering through major airports and busy land borders will still be able to obtain visas on arrival. These include:

• Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek
• Walvis Bay Airport
• Land border crossings such as Katima Mulilo and Ngoma

Travellers opting for the visa-on-arrival process should expect standard entry procedures and are advised to check regularly for updates, as implementation protocols may evolve over time.

Important Notes and Recommendations

• Implementation is still evolving: As the visa-on-arrival system is new, the Namibian government may make adjustments to the process or entry points before or after the 1 April 2025 implementation date.
• Avoid travel disruptions: Travellers are strongly advised to apply early, carry necessary documents, and monitor updates from both the Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs and the U.S. Embassy in Namibia.
• Fees and validity: Visa fees, length of stay, and multi-entry conditions will be confirmed upon application or arrival.
