N3 road in Durban
Durban – Motorists are urged to take heed as the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) announces lane closures on the busy N3 highway. The essential road maintenance will affect traffic flow between Westville Viaduct and Paradise Valley Interchange starting from the 11th of March.
“For the duration of almost two weeks, we’ll see parts of the N3 being intermittently closed off to drivers,” stated Jason Lowe, SANRAL’s Eastern Region Project Manager. “These closures are vital for the repainting of lane markings and the installation of new road studs, which are integral to the upgrade of the N3 corridor.”
The road closures will commence on Monday, 11 March 2024, and are set to conclude on the 22nd of the same month. Drivers can expect the disruptions to take place nightly from 8pm until the early hours of 4.30am.
“The lane closures will take place on the east and westbound lanes of the N3 between Westville Viaduct (Pavilion Mall) and Paradise Valley Interchange (N3/M13 split). The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), with the assistance of the contractor’s traffic accommodation team, will monitor and manage traffic during this period,” elaborated Lowe on Thursday.
In light of the impending closures, SANRAL has advised motorists to plan their routes ahead of time and to consider alternative pathways to minimize delays. Mindfulness of speed restrictions and road safety is also stressed to ensure the well-being of all road users during the construction phase.
Lowe extended an apology to those who might be inconvenienced by these necessary measures, stating, “SANRAL apologises for any inconvenience caused during this period of road improvements and appeals to the motoring public to be patient and considerate on the road.”
