AFCON
After initially hesitating to broadcast the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire (AFCON), Multichoice has made a surprising u-turn and announced that SuperSport will now televise all 52 matches live. The decision comes after MultiChoice secured the rights to broadcast the continent’s showpiece tournament, which is scheduled to take place from January 13, 2024, until February 11, 2024.
This change of heart follows an initial decision by Multichoice not to broadcast the AFCON, as SABC had secured the rights to televise some matches. However, a commercially viable agreement has now been reached with rightsholders, New World TV (NWTV), allowing for the broadcast of the 34th edition of Africa’s premier men’s football competition taking place in Ivory Coast.
Rendani Ramovha, CEO of SuperSport, expressed his delight at being able to showcase the best of African football to viewers, while Nimonka KOLANI, Managing Director of NWTV, emphasized the importance of bringing the joy of the tournament to African fans.
All 52 matches will be available on DStv and GOtv across Africa, ensuring that football fans can follow the exploits of their favorite teams during the biggest football competition on the continent.
