The unveiling ceremony took place on Thursday night, with KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, in attendance to witness the opening of the facility. Capable of accommodating 10,000 pallets, the new cold storage landmark promises to serve the increasing demand in the cold logistics sector while ensuring top-tier preservation of temperature-sensitive goods in transit.

KZN Premier Dube-Ncube was vocal in acknowledging the significance of MSC’s investment, citing it as an emblem of faith in KZN’s economic potential. “The investment by MSC is not only a vote of confidence in our economy but it shows that if we work together as government and the private sector, there is so much we can achieve,” said Dube-Ncube during her keynote address.

“The fact that MSC has invested R350 million in the construction and development of this cold storage facility, is a clear demonstration that you share our positive outlook for the future growth of KwaZulu-Natal,” she added.

MSC South Africa’s Chairperson, Captain Salvatore Sarno, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the facility’s role in enhancing the reliability of the supply chain for perishable commodities and fostering international trade. The facility is seen as a strategic asset that will enable South African exporters to transport their perishable goods globally with greater efficiency and confidence.

“We are proud to unveil this state-of-the-art cold storage facility, which not only reinforces our dedication to supporting the South African economy but also underscores our commitment to job creation and economic growth,” Sarno said.

Sarno further elaborated, “This investment exemplifies our ongoing efforts to provide value-added services to our customers while contributing to the development of the local economy.”
