Zastron, Free State – Mountain Eagles from the SAFA Thabo Mofutsanyana region have ascended to the ABC Motsepe League following their triumphant win in the 2023/24 Hollywoodbets Men’s Regional League playoffs held on Saturday, 18 May 2024.
Mountain Eagles, hailing from Meqheleng, Ficksburg, emerged victorious in a pulsating final against Matjhabeng Real Hearts, securing a 2-0 win that captivated local football enthusiasts. The match drew an impressive crowd, reflecting the community’s robust support for local football.
The Thabo Mofutsanyana region has consistently nurtured top-tier football teams, with this being the second consecutive season a team from the area has earned promotion to the ABC Motsepe League. This dominant performance underscores the region’s burgeoning football prowess.
“We are very proud of Mountain Eagles for their achievement,” stated SAFA Thabo Mofutsanyana Regional Officer Tsheliso Motijane. “Under the leadership of our Regional President Elizabeth De Koker, football is thriving, and we are producing talent that is representing Thabo Mofutsanyana very well.”
Motijane highlighted the fierce competition faced from SAFA Mangaung and Fezile Dabi teams, acknowledging that the Hollywoodbets Men’s Regional League finals showcased Thabo Mofutsanyana’s superiority meticulously.
Motijane also shared optimism about the team’s future. “We believe this team will go far and continue producing talent for the country as they have done in the past. Players like Thembinkosi Lorch and Felix Noge, who have donned the national team colours, are from this club and the mission is to develop players for the nation.”
