Motown icon Smokey Robinson, 85, is confronting a $50 million lawsuit filed by four former housekeepers who allege repeated sexual assault and misconduct spanning nearly two decades. The civil suit, lodged in Los Angeles Superior Court on May 6, 2025, accuses Robinson of sexual battery, false imprisonment, gender violence, and labor violations, with incidents purportedly occurring between 2007 and 2024. 
Allegations Detailed in the Lawsuit
The plaintiffs, identified as Jane Does 1 through 4, claim that Robinson engaged in a pattern of abuse at his residences in Chatsworth and Bell Canyon, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Specific allegations include Robinson summoning the women to secluded areas of his homes, often devoid of surveillance, where he allegedly assaulted them. One woman asserts she was assaulted at least 23 times between 2014 and 2020.   
The lawsuit also names Robinson’s wife, Frances Robinson, alleging she created a hostile work environment by using ethnically derogatory language and failing to prevent her husband’s alleged misconduct. 
Plaintiffs’ Attorneys Emphasize Power Imbalance
Attorneys John Harris and Herbert Hayden, representing the plaintiffs, highlighted the vulnerability of the women, noting their status as low-wage Hispanic workers, some of whom were undocumented. They argue that the plaintiffs feared retaliation, public embarrassment, and potential immigration consequences, which deterred them from reporting the alleged assaults earlier.  
Robinson’s Legal Team Denies Allegations
Robinson’s attorney, Christopher Frost, has categorically denied the allegations, describing them as “vile” and “false.” He contends that the lawsuit is an attempt to extract money from an 85-year-old American icon and plans to seek its dismissal.
