Moshololo and Mpofu join Thabo Bester Legal Team

Thabo Bester Case

Thabo Bester, the convicted facebook murderer and rapist, made headlines again as he announced new additions to his legal team. Bester, who appeared in the Bloemfontein magistrates court on Wednesday, revealed that he had appointed Jan Loubser as his new legal counsel. Loubser will be assisted by high-profile advocates, Zandile Moshololo and Dali Mpofu.

The inclusion of Moshololo and Mpofu brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Bester’s defense. Moshololo is a well-known defense lawyer who gained prominence for her work in the Senzo Meyiwa trial. Mpofu, on the other hand, is a seasoned advocate with an impressive track record.

The appointment of new legal counsel came as a surprise to Bester’s former lawyer, Kabelo Matee. Matee expressed his unawareness of the changes, but Bester clarified that Matee remains part of the legal team, as there are still some matters he needs to take care of.

The case against Bester, his girlfriend, Dr Nandipha Magudumana, and their co-accused has been transferred to the Free State High Court. They are set to appear for a pre-trial on 21 February 2024.

Magudumana and her co-accused are implicated in Bester’s escape from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein last year. In a dramatic turn of events, Magudumana collapsed in the holding cells at the police station prior to her court appearance and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

Furthermore, the state has decided to withdraw charges against Natassja Jansen, Thabang Mier, and Moeketsi Ramolula, all former G4S employees. A new charge sheet, containing 34 charges, was presented to the court.

Bester, Magudumana, and their co-accused, including Senohe Matsoara, Teboho Lipholo, Motanyane Masukela, Tieho Makhotsa, Zando Moyo, and Joel Makhetha, are facing various charges, such as fraud and corruption, aiding and abetting a prisoner to escape, and the desecration of a body.

While Bester, Magudumana, and Moyo remain in custody until their appearance in the High Court, their co-accused have had their bail extended.
