By Thys Khiba – Moqhaka Local Municipality Executive Mayor Motloheloa Mokatsane apologised for allegedly calling community members with the K-word during his address outside of the Viljoenskroon magistrate court.
In a video seen by Free State Central News, Mokatsane used a racial slur while addressing community members of Moqhakaabout crime, violence and Gender Based Violence (GBV) related matters.
“We as black people, we are violent and suffering violence on everyday..,” said Mokatsane.
According to the municipal spokesperson, Dika Kheswa, the mayor used the K-word as a figure of speech in trying to explain the extent of violence within Moqhaka.
“Moqhaka Local Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Motloheloa Mokatsane wishes to unreservedly apologise to the résident of Moqhaka and South Africans for the use of K word during his address outside the Viljoenskroon Magistrate Court,” said Kheswa.
“The Executive Mayor wholeheartedly retracts the use of K word, and the offence it might have caused to the society.”
The African National Congress (ANC) Interim Regional Committee (IRC) in Fezile Dabi said it is distancing itself from what they pronounce as aspersions and condemned what the executive mayor said in a public address.
“The ANC in Fezile Dabi distances itself from these aspersions and totally condemn these as serious acts which violate the human rights, especially against a race which suffered from oppression and were treated as less human for centuries,” said ANC regional coordinator Thabo Mabasa.
Mabasa confirmed that the party is looking into the matter and will soon take steps in line with the party constitution.
