By Thys Khiba – Moqhaka Local Municipality Ward Councilor and MMC for Corporate Support Services Lehlohonolo Ramajoe has been arrested in Viljoenskroon for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend and contravening a protection order.
This comes after South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the incident allegedly took place after the complaint had a protection order against Ramajoe.
Ramajoe is expected to appear in court on Tuesday due to postponement of his case. This is after he made his first appearance on Friday.
The African National Congress (ANC) Fezile Dabi IRC Coordinator, Thabo Mabasa told Free State Central News that they are going to release a media statement after confirming legal details around the arrest.
“We were informed about the arrest and we have asked the Chief Whip to go and investigate the matter… and we will release a statement regarding this matter,” said Mabasa.
Spokesperson for Moqhaka municipality Dika Kheswa has confirmed the arrest of Ramajoe but was not willing to give more details about the arrest of the councilor.
“No, we have noted the arrest of the said councilor, however we are currently not in a position to further comment on the matter due to the fact that the matter is still before courts. So, we would really want to respect and afford the courts of law an opportunity to deal with the matter,” said Kheswa.
