Orlando Pirates maintained their winning streak in the Betway Premiership with a thrilling 2-1 victory over AmaZulu at the Orlando Stadium on Friday evening. This win marks their fifth consecutive victory in the league, reinforcing their position as a dominant force this season. Despite a late push from AmaZulu, the Buccaneers managed to secure all three points in a match that highlighted the emerging talent of young Mohau Nkota.

Nkota, a promising 19-year-old forward, stole the show in the first half, netting twice within six minutes. His first goal, a powerful shot into the top corner in the 30th minute, set the tone for the Pirates. He followed up with a second goal in the 36th minute, receiving a well-placed pass from Relebohile Ratomo and calmly finishing past AmaZulu’s defence. Nkota nearly secured a hat-trick later in the game, but his shot struck the post, adding to the excitement.

The second half saw Pirates initially maintain control, but AmaZulu began to press harder as the game approached its conclusion. Despite the pressure, Pirates’ goalkeeper, Richard Ofori, who was facing his former team, made crucial saves to maintain their lead. AmaZulu’s persistence paid off in stoppage time when Hendrick Ekstein scored a consolation goal in the 93rd minute, displaying individual brilliance. However, the Buccaneers held firm, securing a 2-1 win that allowed them to retain bragging rights at Orlando Stadium.

Pirates’ coach, Jose Riveiro, made defensive substitutions in the later stages to counter AmaZulu’s momentum, ensuring the team’s victory. This result leaves Pirates in a strong position in the league, with Nkota’s performance adding a new dimension to the team’s attacking options. The Buccaneers’ next challenge will be to maintain their perfect record as they eye the top spot in the Betway Premiership standings.
