One of the major highlights of Modi’s visit is the effort to finalise trade agreements that will boost bilateral economic relations. The United States is India’s largest trading partner, with two-way trade exceeding $160 billion annually.
According to sources, Modi is expected to offer major tariff reductions on American exports, particularly in the agriculture, energy, and technology sectors. India is also looking to secure better market access for its goods and services in the U.S..
“Modi is bringing a tariff ‘gift’ for Trump as part of discussions to expand trade,” a senior official told Reuters.The two leaders will also explore joint investment projects in renewable energy and high-tech manufacturing, including semiconductors and digital infrastructure.
Defence and Strategic Security Ties
India and the United States have significantly strengthened defence cooperation over the past decade. Modi and Trump are expected to discuss:
