Pretoria – The Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) confirmed that it is legally, politically impossible for the African National Congress (ANC) to implement the decision of the immediate disbandment of MKMVA and the MK council.
“This is a totally unacceptable situation, which MKMVA will not accept. We are an autonomous structure, and it is not legally, nor politically, possible for the ANC to disband MKMVA,” said MKMVA spokesperson Carl Gerhardus Niehaus.
According to Niehaus, this is now the second time in the past two months that MKMVA has, ‘in totally non-procedural and illegal manner’, been disbanded.
This follows the announcement by the ANC Deputy Secretary General Jessie Duarte to ratify the National Working Committee (NWC) decision for the immediate disbandment of the MKMVA and the MK Council.

“The counter-revolutionary calls for violence and even civil war, parading of armed groups, flagrant display weapons and firing of guns, as well as the activities particularly of individuals operating under the banner of the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA),” said Duarte.
Niehaus is accusing the ANC of reacting emotionally and in anger, in total disregard of the ANC Constitution and proper procedure.
“All of this just because of MKMVA’s support for President Jacob Zuma,” said Niehaus.
MKMVA confirmed that they will continue to support and protect President Jacob Zuma, who is their ‘Patron In Chief.’
