By Thys Khiba – Former president of the African National Congress (ANC) and South Africa, Jacob Zuma and leaders of the MKMVA spent over seven hours in a political meeting, discussing party challenges, economic justice for black people and his political role in the governing party.

“We once again stood astounded by the strength and commitment of Nxamalala to continue the struggle for full justice – also economic justice for the majority of black and especially African South Africans – despite all the attacks and personal humiliation that he continues to be subjected to,” said MKMVA national spokesperson Carl Niehaus.

This comes after national and provincial leaders of the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA)decided to officially visit Zuma at his Nkandla home to reiterate their support for him on his ongoing legal battle.

“MKMVA is deeply grateful for Nxamalala’s ongoing guidance and leadership. President Zuma was central in the formation of MKMVA, and that umbilical cord will never be cut,” said Niehaus.

The MKMVA members believes that the former president of the governing party can still play an essential role in building the ANC.

“During our discussion the MKMVA delegation acknowledged this important role that President Zuma must continue to play in the ANC and overall political future, and quest for social-economic justice, in our country.”

Meanwhile, the MKMVA sent a strong warning to ‘wayward ANC leaders who target Zuma.’

“Those who conduct themselves in this appalling manner will be well advised to remember that the political wheel always turns, and that their short sighted factional political triumphalism, based on all too fleeting temporary political power, will not serve them, nor our nation well,” Niehaus said.

Niehaus confirmed Zuma will continue to enjoy their unwavering support and defence.

The ANC leadership in KwaZulu Natal recently visited Zuma and said the government must continue to support him in the same manner it supported other former heads of state.
