Chidimma Adetshina

Chidimma Adetshina, a former contestant in the Miss South Africa 2024 beauty pageant, has received an invitation to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant. This invitation comes shortly after Adetshina’s unexpected withdrawal from the Miss South Africa competition amid a citizenship investigation.
The decision to withdraw was made following an investigation by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs, which uncovered prima facie evidence suggesting possible fraud committed by Adetshina’s mother. The investigation revealed that identity theft might have occurred, raising questions about Adetshina’s citizenship status. Despite these findings, it was noted that Adetshina, who was an infant at the time of the alleged fraud, could not have participated in any unlawful actions.
Adetshina announced her withdrawal from the competition in a heartfelt post on Instagram, expressing her gratitude to her supporters and explaining her decision. “I would like to start off by thanking everyone who has stood beside me right from the start of my Miss South Africa journey. I’m really grateful for all the love and support I have been shown. Being part of the Miss South Africa 2024 competition has been an amazing journey; however, after much careful consideration, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw myself from the competition for the safety and wellbeing of my family and I. With the support of the Miss South Africa Organisation, I leave with a heart full of gratitude for this amazing experience. I would like to take this opportunity to wish my fellow finalists all of the best for the remainder of the competition. Whoever wears the crown represents us all,” Adetshina stated.
Following her withdrawal, Miss Universe Nigeria, through its National Director, Guy Murray-Bruce, issued a statement extending their support to Adetshina. “We at Miss Universe Nigeria have been closely following the developments regarding your decision to bow out of the Miss South Africa beauty pageant. We acknowledge the circumstances surrounding your withdrawal and understand the challenges you may be facing,” Murray-Bruce stated.
The statement further expressed Miss Universe Nigeria’s belief in Adetshina’s potential and encouraged her to continue her journey in pageantry. “We believe that your journey in the world of pageantry is far from over and that there are still numerous opportunities for you to showcase your talent, grace, and beauty,” the statement read. Murray-Bruce also formally invited Adetshina to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant, an opportunity that would allow her to represent her Nigerian heritage on an international stage.
“As a Nigerian by heritage, we would like to formally invite you to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant. This is an opportunity to represent your father’s native land on an international stage, and we believe you would be an outstanding contender,” Murray-Bruce added.
The investigation by Home Affairs has since broadened, with the department now pursuing any officials who may have been involved in the alleged fraudulent scheme. Legal advice is also being sought on the implications of the alleged fraud on Adetshina’s citizenship status, with the department indicating plans to press criminal charges against all implicated parties once the investigation is completed.
In their statement, Home Affairs highlighted the case as an example of the urgent need for digital modernisation of their processes to prevent similar incidents in the future. They also reiterated their commitment to upholding the rule of law and the rights of all parties involved.
