Pretoria, South Africa – Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana has made a public appeal for citizens to contribute their suggestions to the National Budget for the fiscal year 2024. As the country readies itself for the crucial budget speech slated for February 2024, South Africans from all walks of life are getting an opportunity to have their say in fiscal matters ranging from municipal funding to the management of a looming energy crisis.

The National Treasury has set its sights on crafting a budget that will navigate through a complex financial landscape characterized by pressing demands such as a significant budget deficit, the need to stabilize the finances of state-owned entities, and the urgency of creating sustainable tax revenues. Citizens are invited to submit their views on these issues, as well as on government spending priorities and strategies to address the delicate balance between economic growth and social support.

Minister Godongwana emphasised the importance of public participation in this process. “The budget allocation aims to strike a balance between growing the economy and supporting the vulnerable amid limited resources,” he stated. He believes that the insights from South Africans will be integral to shaping a more inclusive and responsive budget.

Public contributions to the National Budget can be made through the National Treasury’s website at https://bit.ly/3ruszsi until the 11th of February, 2024. The Ministry of Finance has advised contributors to be succinct and focus on direct suggestions or concerns for clarity and effectiveness.

Additionally, the Ministry is inviting South Africans to utilize social media platforms as forums for constructive fiscal discussions. By tagging the Ministry on platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, and Twitter, citizens can use the hashtags #TipsForMinFin and #Budget2024 to offer insights, stimulate debate, and promote transparency in the budgetary process.
