Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga in Ga-Rankuwa
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has emphasized the importance of education as learners return to school today. During a visit to Kgatoentle Secondary School in Ga-Rankuwa, Pretoria, Minister Motshekga urged students to prioritize their studies and avoid engaging in destructive activities that could jeopardize their future.
“Growing up is not easy, but it is crucial to stay focused on your education at this time. Grade 12, this year is your year,” Motshekga stated, addressing the senior students. She highlighted the government’s investment in education and emphasized the importance of students’ role in the country’s future and economy.
Accompanied by Gauteng MEC for Education Matome Chiloane, Motshekga’s visit aimed to oversee the reopening of schools as Grade 12 students begin their final year. Meanwhile, the release of the 2023 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination results is also on the horizon, with more than 890,000 candidates having taken the exams at the end of last year.
Umalusi, the national education quality assurance body, recently approved the release of the November 2023 NSC examination results, following an assessment of potential irregularities. Umalusi council chairperson Professor Yunus Ballim emphasized that while some irregularities were identified, they did not compromise the overall credibility and integrity of the exams administered by the Department of Basic Education.
The final announcement on the exam results is anticipated to be made by Minister Motshekga on Thursday, with the general release scheduled for the following day. As students embark on a new academic year, the minister’s message underscores the government’s commitment to education and the importance of students’ dedication to their studies.
