Minister Announces New Interim Board of Directors for SITA to Drive Digital Transformation

The Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele, has recently announced changes to the Board of Directors of the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) to bring a strategic focus to the digitization efforts of the government. These changes come following the departure and resignation of some directors.

The Minister has appointed an interim board, effective from Friday, July 21, 2023, consisting of experts in information and communications technology (ICT), legal, audit, finance, human capital, and governance. This diverse board composition aims to combine institutional experience and continuity, ensuring SITA’s crucial role in the digital transformation of the state.

The newly appointed board members include:

– Khathu Sibanda, a highly experienced IT professional with a Master’s degree in Technology Management and a successful track record in implementing technology and business strategies across the private and public sectors.

– Dr. Lucienne Abraham, a knowledgeable expert in the digital knowledge economy and ICT policy and regulation, with a PhD in Knowledge Economies. She brings valuable academic knowledge and applied experience, having previously served on the SITA board.

– Luvuyo Keyise, a seasoned IT executive with a Master’s degree in Computer Science and extensive experience in both information technology and telecommunications. He has previously served as an Administrator for SITA.

– Sherylee Moonsamy (CA), an experienced Chief Financial Officer with a strong background in government administration and a history of driving financial success. She holds an Honours degree in Accounting and Auditing and an MBA, and has served on the previous board.

– Nolitha Pietersen, a seasoned Chartered Accountant (CA) with a wealth of experience in both public and private organizations. She holds an Honours degree in Accounting and Auditing and an MBA, and currently serves on various boards and committees, including the previous SITA board.

– Kiruben Pillay, a management and engineering professional with extensive experience in mission-critical ICT environments. He possesses skills in strategy formulation and implementation, general management, technology and product management, and operations management. He is a registered professional engineer and a Senior Member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers.

– Lerato Petlele, a seasoned Human Capital practitioner with expertise in recruitment administration, labour relations, organizational development, and talent management. She holds a Master’s degree in Commerce and a Master’s diploma in Human Resource Management, and is associated with professional HR organizations in South Africa.

– Mandla Martin Mnisi, a practicing attorney and Director at Mncedisi Ndlovu & Sedumedi (MNS Attorneys). He has a proven track record in providing legal advisory services to corporate and public sector clients, and state-owned entities. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director at Denel, where he contributed to the development of a governance turnaround plan.

In addition to these appointments, the Minister has also selected representatives from the Department of Public Service and Administration, as well as the National Treasury, as required by the Act. Laura Seme, who served on the previous board, and Renisha Naidoo were appointed as representatives.

Minister Gungubele warmly welcomed the interim board and expressed his confidence in their ability to re-establish SITA as the leading expert on ICT matters in the government while positively impacting service delivery for the nation.
