Peter Teixeira, the Executive Mayor of Midvaal Local Municipality, distributed 185 title deeds to the eagerly awaited beneficiaries of the Sicelo housing project on Wednesday.

Launched in 2015, the Sicelo housing project initially identified 290 beneficiaries. Mayor Teixeira highlighted the efforts of his administration in expediting the process, “This was done through persistent pressure and facilitation by our administration.

There are still 105 title deeds pending transfer by the Gauteng Department of Housing Settlements and we will continue to put pressure on the department to expedite this process.”

During the title deed ceremony, the Executive Mayor reiterated his administration’s dedication to fulfilling the promises made to the residents. “When we came into office, we made a promise to our residents to provide them with the dignity of homeownership. We will continue to urge the Provincial Government to expedite the process of issuing title deeds so that our people do not have to wait nine years to obtain documentation confirming ownership of their homes,” Teixeira said.

Municipal Spokesperson, Idah Satikhe, provided further insights into the municipality’s proactive stance on housing, stating that since the beginning of their term, the Midvaal Municipality has successfully overseen the grand issuance of over 600 title deeds across various housing projects.

“Although housing is a competency of the Provincial Government, Midvaal Local Municipality will continue to work tirelessly to facilitate the construction of houses and the issuance of title deeds.,” Satikhe affirmed.
