MEC Bulwane meets Women in Transport and Freight industry programme in Kroonstad

The MEC for Free State department of Police, Roads and Transport, William Bulwane, hosted more than 200 women from public transport, freight, traffic and bus industry on Tuesday, 06 September 2022. This event is part of recording progress and challenges that are confronting women in transport and freight industry.

MEC William Bulwane reflected on numerous issues that are affecting women in the society. The MEC encouraged the audience that they should be involved in the transport and freight industry which was male dominated but now progress is registered.

“Free State Province is one of the provinces that has the least people who own some type of vehicle or have access to a vehicle. This makes Free State a public transport dependable province.”

The MEC further emphasized that government continues to be committed to changing the mobility of everyone, black and white by ensuring that the public transport system becomes accessible, affordable, coordinated, efficient, reliable and safe.

The government continues to invest and subsidies public transport to ensure that the poor and the working class don’t pay more than 10% of their wages for public transport.

The program was graced by the mayor of Moqhaka Local Municipality Cllr Motlogeloa Mokatsane, Speaker of Moqhaka Local Municipality Cllr Cllr Selloane Khiba, Chief Whip Cllr Mamajeremane Semakale, Acting HoD Masego Tshabalala, Chief Director Traffic Mr Lehana Leeto, Maluti-Busline, SANTACO Women and other associations.
