Matjhabeng Municipal Speaker Bheke Stofile elected as SALGA President

The Speaker of Matjhabeng Local Municipality Councillor Bheke Stofile has been elected unopposed as the President of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) on Friday, 04 March 2022 at the SALGA National Conference in Cape Town.

Other elected 3 Deputy Presidents are: Deputy President Cllr Flora Maboa – Boltman from Mpumalanga (Gert Sibande District Municipality), Deputy President Xola Phakathi from Eastern Cape (Buffalo City Metro Municipality) and Deputy President Xhanthea Limberg from Western Cape (City of Capetown).

The conference started from the 2nd of March (Wednesday) to 4 March 2022 (Friday) under the theme “Consolidating the role of local government in rebuilding local communities to meet their social, economic and material needs” at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. 

The event was attended by delegates from municipalities, national and provincial government, academic institutions, partners and stakeholders within the local government sector, as well as business.
