In response to this disturbing incident, Deputy President Mashatile has expressed his strong disapproval of any excessive use of force, particularly against civilians who pose no threat.

He firmly believes that members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) should uphold and protect the fundamental rights of every individual, exercising their powers responsibly and with restraint.

Recognizing the necessity for a thorough investigation, Deputy President Mashatile urges the public to allow the SAPS the time and space needed to complete their inquiry. He stresses the importance of taking appropriate corrective action to address this serious breach of conduct.

Moreover, Deputy President Mashatile has shown his trust in the leadership of Minister Bheki Cele and the command of General Masemola within the SAPS. He believes that they have the capacity to do what is right in response to this incident, restoring the public’s faith in the security forces.

In alignment with Deputy President Mashatile’s stance, General Masemola, the Commander of the SAPS, has also condemned the behavior displayed by the members involved in the incident. He reiterates that members of the SAPS have a responsibility to uphold and protect the rights of all individuals, exercising their authority in a controlled manner.

 

General Masemola unequivocally states that such actions cannot be condoned, regardless of the circumstances.
