Manhunt for Escaped Fake Doctor in Tshwane

The police in Lyttleton, Tshwane district, have launched a manhunt for an escaped accused named Kingsley Leeto Chele. Chele is a fake doctor and a Facebook con artist who targeted women by misrepresenting himself as a doctor or a pharmacist and scamming them of their hard-earned money.

Operating under the aliases of Dr. Kingsley Chele or Dr. KJ Ncube, Chele contacted health professionals on Facebook, pretending to seek investors while swindling them out of thousands of rands for non-existent projects. Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, the spokesperson for the police, confirmed that two fraud cases were registered in Sunnyside and Klipgat in June 2023, leading to Chele’s initial arrest on October 2, 2023.

However, their victory was short-lived when Chele managed to escape from lawful custody on October 11, 2023. The police were cataloguing his household items at his residence when the escape took place, leaving the investigating officers and the entire police force stunned. Masondo reassured the public that the police have registered a case of escape from lawful custody and are actively searching for Chele.

The Pretoria Magistrates’ Court had denied bail for Chele due to the severity of the charges against him, and he was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on October 17, 2023. Taking swift action, the investigating officer of the case involved the asset forfeiture unit to assist in attaching the accused’s property believed to have been amassed from the proceeds of his crimes. Among those assets is a 2023 VW Golf GTI.

The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any information regarding the whereabouts of Kingsley Leeto Chele to the Investigating Officer, Captain Motolla, at 082 715 9583 or to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
