Mangaung Metro Encourages Residents to Celebrate Responsibly in Public Parks

Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality (MMM)

As the festive season reaches its peak, the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality (MMM) urges residents to use municipal parks responsibly during their family gatherings. Spokesperson Qondile Khedama emphasized the importance of maintaining these communal spaces for everyone’s enjoyment.

“As the year comes to an end, most residents use municipal parks during this time with their families for picnics and braais,” Khedama stated. “Mangaung Metro urges all patrons to use these facilities responsibly, ensuring that others can also enjoy them.”

Enhanced Law Enforcement Presence

To ensure public safety, MMM Law Enforcement and the South African Police Service (SAPS) will maintain a high visibility throughout the city. Residents are advised to adhere to road regulations and cooperate fully with officials.

“We encourage those who will be traveling and those who will be celebrating to be cautious and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol,” Khedama added. “Our Traffic and Law Enforcement teams are working closely with other agencies to ensure the safety of residents.”

Community Cooperation and Safety Measures

The municipality calls on the community to play an active role in maintaining safety during the festive season. Residents are encouraged to report any emergencies or suspicious activities immediately to the relevant authorities.

“Safety is a shared responsibility; let us all work together to prevent road accidents, injuries, and fatalities during this busy period,” urged Acting Government Spokesperson Nomonde Mnukwa.

General Festive Season Safety Tips

To further promote safety during the festive season, residents are advised to consider the following tips:

• Road Safety: Avoid driving at night if possible, and always ensure that your vehicle is in good condition before embarking on any journey. Obey all traffic laws and be mindful of other road users.
• Personal Safety: Stay alert in crowded places, keep your belongings secure, and avoid displaying valuable items in public. Be cautious when using ATMs and try to avoid carrying large sums of money.
• Home Safety: Ensure that your home is secure by locking all doors and windows when leaving. Inform a trusted neighbor or friend if you plan to be away for an extended period.
• Water Safety: Always swim with an adult who can swim, and only in areas where there is a lifeguard on duty. Never dive into the water unless it is safe to do so.
