Mangaung Metro Deploys Tankers

Residents of Mangaung Metro, particularly in the Pellissier area, are currently experiencing water supply interruptions due to a burst pipe in the Vaal Central Water system. The City’s water service provider, Vaal Central Water, has deployed a team to repair the damaged pipeline, with completion expected within 24 hours. To ensure continued water access during this period, water tankers are being dispatched to affected areas where reduced water pressure is anticipated.

The Cause of the Interruption

The issue stems from a burst water pipe that caused significant disruptions in Pellissier. The burst pipeline, part of the Vaal Central Water system, required immediate intervention to prevent further damage and mitigate the impact on residents. According to the public notice released on 15 December 2024 by Mangaung Metro Municipality, the mainline supplying the broader area remains operational, ensuring that only parts of the network experience reduced supply.

The repair team has been on-site since the issue was detected and is working diligently to restore the system. The repair, which involves fixing the damaged section and conducting stability tests, is estimated to take approximately 24 hours to complete.

Key Actions Taken by Mangaung Metro

In response to the burst pipeline, the following measures have been implemented:

1. Water Tankers Deployment
Water tankers have been deployed as a precautionary measure to ensure that areas facing reduced water pressure receive temporary supply. These tankers will rotate within the Pellissier area to assist affected residents.
2. Ensuring Continued Operation of the Mainline
While repairs are underway, the City assured residents that the mainline remains operational, minimising widespread water supply cuts. This allows water to continue flowing to areas not directly impacted by the burst.
3. Urgent Repairs by Vaal Central Water
The Vaal Central Water team, tasked with overseeing the water system, is conducting urgent repairs. Teams are on-site with specialised equipment to address the damage efficiently.

Appeal to Residents: Use Water Sparingly

To ease the strain on the water system during repairs, the municipality has urged residents to use water sparingly. Reducing water consumption will help sustain supply levels while repairs are being finalised.

Residents are advised to:

• Avoid unnecessary water use, such as watering gardens or washing vehicles.
• Store a limited amount of water for immediate household use.
• Report any leaks or issues to municipal authorities to prevent water loss.

This collective effort will assist the municipality in ensuring a stable recovery of the system once repairs are complete.

Updates and Communication from the Municipality

Mangaung Metro Municipality, through its communications office, has committed to keeping residents informed throughout the repair process. Regular updates will be shared as the situation progresses, ensuring that residents are aware of developments.

The municipality has also extended an apology to residents for the inconvenience caused and reassured them of its commitment to resolving the issue promptly. Residents requiring further information or assistance can contact the communications office directly via email or phone.
