Bloemfontein, Free State – Mangaung Metropolitan Executive Mayor Gregory Nthatisi is set to launch the Masupatsela War on Leaks project in Bloemfontein on Thursday, 15 August 2024. This initiative marks a significant step in the municipality’s efforts to combat the persistent issue of water leaks across the metro.
The Masupatsela War on Leaks project is designed to systematically address water leaks that have been plaguing various parts of the metro, causing not only water wastage but also posing a risk to the infrastructure. The project will be rolled out in phases, with the first phase launching in Bloemfontein. This will be followed by subsequent phases in other regions of the municipality, ensuring a comprehensive approach to tackling this critical issue.

Mayor Nthatisi emphasized the importance of this initiative in preserving water resources and maintaining the integrity of the city’s infrastructure. “Addressing water leaks is not just about saving water; it’s about safeguarding our city’s infrastructure and ensuring that our communities have reliable access to this essential resource,” said Nthatisi.
The launch event in Bloemfontein is a crucial starting point, and the success of this phase will pave the way for similar efforts in other towns within the Mangaung Metro. The municipality has committed to keeping the public informed about the progress of the project, with regular updates and communication about the subsequent phases.
Residents of Mangaung Metro are encouraged to participate in the project by reporting any water leaks in their areas. The success of the Masupatsela War on Leaks project relies heavily on community involvement, and the municipality has set up various channels for residents to report issues, including a dedicated hotline and online platforms.
The launch event will be held at the Leslie Monnanyane Building on 15 August 2024, starting at 09:00 am. All stakeholders, including municipal officials, community leaders, and residents, are invited to attend and support this vital initiative.
