On Saturday, in Monnahalatwe, a 32-year-old male was taken into custody by the Bloemspruit Police on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, and arson.
The Bloemspruit police station received a complaint, and the patrol car was dispatched to investigate at approximately 03:40am
“On arrival at the scene the members found the lifeless body of a 27-year-old male lying within a few meters from a burnt shack with serious open head wounds.
The paramedics were summoned to the scene and declared him dead.” said Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Covane.
“According to the reports received by the police, the suspect arrived at the deceased’s shack with a hammer and started assaulting the deceased and his girlfriend who were both sleeping.”
“The victims both managed to run out of the shack but the male fell to the ground where he was found dead by the police. The deceased’s girlfriend was rushed to local hospital where she received medical treatment.”
The suspect is also accused of using paraffin to further burn the deceased person’s shack. The attack’s motivation is unknown.
At Bloemspruit Police Station, a murder, attempted murder, and arson case were opened.
The suspect was taken into police custody after being arrested.
On Monday, June 19, 2023, he will appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.
