Just 12 hours after Standard Bank issued an apology and clarified that the proof of payment for legal fees by EFF lawyers Ian Levitt Attorneys to AfriForum was indeed legitimate, the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) released a statement condemning the EFF and accusing them of fraudulent activities.
The ANCYL claimed that the recent exposure of the EFF’s alleged funding from drug lords, illegal cigarette kingpins, and illegal mining magnates highlighted their moral bankruptcy and disregard for the people they claim to represent. They also called for a boycott before later deleting the statement.
AfriForum also made a statement on Friday, accusing the EFF and Ian Levitt Attorneys of falsifying the proof of payment notification. This accusation was apparently based on outdated information found in the fine print of the bank statement.
