Mamelodi Sundowns' Star Keeper, Ronwen Williams, Commits to the Club Until 2028

In what can only be described as a phenomenal boost for Mamelodi Sundowns, the club has joyously announced a significant commitment from their star goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams. On Friday, it was made official that Williams, who also captains the Bafana Bafana, has penned a 4-year extension to his current deal, with an extra year’s option, ensuring his presence at Chloorkop until at least 2028. This announcement comes hot on the heels of Sundowns’ impressive 5-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership.

Since joining the illustrious ranks of Sundowns in 2022, Williams has been an indispensable asset for the team, having a critical role in their triumphs, including lifting the DStv Premiership, clinching the African Football League (AFL) title, and securing a spot in the eagerly awaited FIFA Club World Cup.

Expressing his elation, Williams shared, “I’m over the moon, it just shows the belief that the club has in me, it shows the value that I’ve brought to the club. There is so much that we can achieve as a team & I’m looking forward to it with lots of excitement.” His decision to extend his stay was a clear-cut one, driven by both personal growth and professional success at the club.

2023/24 has been particularly stellar for Williams, not just with Sundowns, but also on international duty. His remarkable performances have not only contributed to The Brazilians’ dream start in the League but have also turned heads on the global scene during the Africa Cup Of Nations Tournament earlier this year, where South Africa clinched a respectable 3rd place finish.

Reflecting on his extended commitment, Williams noted, “It definitely gives us confidence to end the season on a high… there’s now bigger and better expectations, we’ve won the African Football League (AFL), next year we’re going to the FIFA Club World Cup, those are things when I signed I didn’t even think about achieving, it shows what this club is capable of achieving.”

In a heartfelt message to the club’s supporters, Williams didn’t mince his words: “To the Yellow Nation – thank you so much for your support, you’ve gotten behind me since day one. You are always there for us, singing and inspiring us and being our extra man, I’m looking forward to the future!”
