Well-known sports fanatic Mama Joy has expressed her support for SAFA President Danny Jordaan by firmly declaring “Hands off Danny Jordaan” after the Hawks raided SAFA House.

Her statement comes in the wake of a raid at the South African Football Association’s headquarters in Nasrec—stemming from allegations involving fraud and theft to the tune of R1.3 million—during which several items, including documents linked to Jordaan, were confiscated.

Meanwhile, the governing body offered a sharp retort to the law enforcement agency. “We want to set it out from the onset that we believe the search was unlawful, malicious and not conducted in terms of the directives of a warrant given to us,” SAFA stated, vowing to contest the process every step of the way and to clear their President’s embattled name.

However, not everyone shares Mama Joy’s impassioned defense of Jordaan. Social media reactions ranged from skepticism to outright disdain for her position. “I won’t be surprised if you’re fingered in this whole process,” chided one user. “Not surprised all ANC members embrace corruption,” another added bitterly, while The Great Dlamini warned, “You’re digging your own grave umdala.” Edgar Legoale was even more direct in his condemnation, “Mama Joy stop what you are doing. DONT DEFEND THIS Bloody Thug WHO DESTROYED GRASSROOT FOOTBALL IN SOUTH AFRICA. Danny Jordaan Must go to Jail.”

On the side of the Hawks, spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale detailed the circumstances behind the operation, asserting, “The Serious Commercial Crime Investigation executed search [and] seizure warrants this morning, 08 March 2024, at the South African Football Association’s office. The president is also reported to have violated SAFA statutes thus prejudicing SAFA an actual loss of R1.3 million. During the search, a laptop, external hard drives, a USB and documents were seized.”
