The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, is set to address the media at the party’s 10th Anniversary Closing Press Conference on Wednesday at Winnie Madikizela Mandela House in Johannesburg.
Reflecting on the recent EFF 10th Anniversary Rally, the party expresses gratitude to the people of South Africa, the continent, and the world for their participation and enthusiasm leading up to the historic event at FNB Stadium on July 29th, 2023.
Sinawo Tambo, EFF National Spokesperson, acknowledges the remarkable impact the EFF has made on South Africa’s political landscape, enhancing the nation’s appreciation for democracy. Tambo extends appreciation to all those who contributed to the successful Road to FNB Stadium.
The EFF’s journey to FNB Stadium has showcased their commitment to philanthropy, development, and education. The party embarked on projects to improve infrastructure in old age homes, orphanages, and disability centers across all nine provinces of South Africa. To cater to their immediate needs, the EFF also made a generous donation of R100,000 to each of these centers. These adopted centers signify the party’s ongoing support for society’s most vulnerable individuals.
In addition to the aforementioned efforts, the EFF introduced a stage play titled “Lero,” which reflects on their history and the current socio-economic conditions of South African society. The party also organized an Essay and Poetry Competition, wherein nine winners who wrote essays reflecting on the 10 years of the EFF received R40,000 each. The winner of the EFF Poetry Competition, which invited participants to submit poems on the decade of the EFF’s existence, was awarded R50,000.
To commemorate the National Peoples’ Assembly on “What Is To Be Done,” which gave rise to the EFF, the party organized a Commemorative Walk from Uncle Toms Hall in Soweto. Additionally, the EFF launched their 5th Jazz Hour Album and hosted the EFF 10th Anniversary Exhibition, highlighting the significance of the arts in South Africa.
The EFF Carnival, a festival celebrating the history of the EFF through symbolism, music, arts, and traditional performances, was a noteworthy prelude to FNB Stadium. This vibrant event was followed by a lecture delivered by esteemed Pan-Africanist, Professor P.L.O Lumumba, who drew parallels between the birth of the EFF and Africa’s centuries-long struggle against colonial domination.
Paying tribute to the miners of Marikana, whose sacrifice led to the formation of the EFF, the party held its Birthday Celebration in Mariana on July 26th, 2023.
To engage with the business sector and diplomatic community on the EFF’s policies as they march towards governance in South Africa in 2024, the party hosted the EFF Gala Dinner and EFF Diplomatic Breakfast.
The EFF expresses gratitude to all the leaders and public representatives who brought their constituents to the stadium and ensured the safe transportation of attendees from different provinces.
However, the EFF acknowledges the unfortunate passing of an attendee at the 10th Anniversary Rally, who, according to reports, fell to his death from one of the stands.
The party offers its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased and prays for his soul to rest in eternal peace. The EFF’s leadership plans to visit the family of the deceased and handle all funeral arrangements as a tribute to his participation in the historic celebration of the party’s movement.
