EFF leader Julius Malema has responded defiantly to the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) criticism over the chanting of the struggle song, “Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer,” during the EFF’s 10th anniversary celebration on Saturday.
In a heated exchange, Malema dismissed DA leader John Steenhuisen as a “small boy” and emphasized that the EFF is not the ANC.

The issue surrounding the song’s lyrics has been taken up by the Equality Court in Johannesburg.
The court last year ruled that the chanting does not constitute hate speech and should be protected as freedom of speech.
The judgment further explained that the song serves as a reflection of the current government’s failure to address economic empowerment and land division.
The DA, however, refuses to accept this ruling and has announced its intention to take action against Malema.
Steenhuisen outlined the party’s plan, which includes filing charges against Malema and the ANC government with the United Nations for alleged violations, submitting an ethics complaint to Parliament, and seeking guidance from legal experts on approaching relevant authorities such as the public protector and international courts.
Steenhuisen highlighted the DA’s previous success in holding the South African government accountable to the International Criminal Court and asserted that they will employ similar tactics to force action against Malema.
The party intends to file a complaint with Parliament’s ethics committee and seek legal advice on engaging with the Public Protector and the courts.
Steenhuisen expressed frustration with the South African state’s failure to address Malema’s inflammatory behavior in the past. He criticized the lack of action from various institutions and recent examples of law enforcement officials socializing with Malema at a fundraiser instead of taking action against him. According to Steenhuisen, this is why it is necessary to turn to the global community for support.
