LIMPOPO PROVINCE: Julius Malema, President of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the African National Congress (ANC), are set to attend the Easter Church Service on Sunday at St Engenas Zion Christian Church (ZCC) in Moria, Limpopo Province, both parties have announced.

The annual Easter pilgrimage to Moria is a significant event, with millions of ZCC pilgrims expected to gather outside Polokwane in the Limpopo province at the weekend. Among the two branches of the ZCC, St Engenas stands as the focal point for these devout followers.
The EFF stated, “This visit seeks to mark and honour the ideals of the Easter period, which are of resurrection, goodwill, and peace.”
President Ramaphosa yesterday attended the Easter Convention Service at the Eagle Christian Church in Ward 15, Bloemfontein, demonstrating his commitment to observing the holy week across different denominations.
However, the Easter festivities have been overshadowed by tragedy. On Thursday, a bus traveling from Botswana to the St. Engenas ZCC church encountered a catastrophic accident. The vehicle lost control, plunged off a bridge, and was engulfed in flames.
The South African Police Service’s INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Pretoria has confirmed that all the passengers involved in the fatal accident, along with one surviving minor, are citizens of Botswana. The office is in continual communication with their counterparts in Gaborone, Botswana, to facilitate the ongoing investigation and the necessary procedures following this tragic incident.
In an official statement, the Police revealed their investigation into a case of culpable homicide is underway. “As of 11:00 today, only 34 bodies have been found thus far.” The identification process is proving challenging, with only nine victims identified so far, as efforts continue to locate more bodies at the scene.
Amidst this sorrow, there’s a glimmer of hope as the sole surviving passenger, an 8-year-old girl, is receiving medical care at a local hospital, authorities confirmed.
Further details shared by the bus owner, also a Botswana national, revealed the bus was transporting 31 female and 15 male passengers from Molepolole, a village close to Gaborone, at the time of the accident. Efforts are underway, with INTERPOL NCB Pretoria working closely with INTERPOL NCB Gaborone, to identify and repatriate the remains of the deceased.
This Easter period, marked by both celebration and mourning, draws attention to the broader aspects of community, faith, and the shared human experiences of joy and loss.
