KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa – The Provincial Head of the KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), Major General Lesetja Senona, has lauded his team’s recent intervention in intercepting a massive cocaine shipment intended for the Free State.

On Wednesday, members from the Pietermaritzburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit conducted a strategic operation that led to the confiscation of 20 cocaine bricks, valued at approximately R8 million, from an industrial park near Pietermaritzburg.

Operation Details

According to the Hawks, the officers acted on reliable intelligence regarding a truck transporting a chemical crop sprayer tractor from Durban Harbour, destined for the Free State province.

“In a disruptive operation, members swiftly proceeded to the identified industrial park,” the statement revealed. “The truck was located and found stationary. A thorough search ensued, leading to the discovery of 20 bricks of cocaine covertly hidden inside the chemical sprayer bin. A detailed statement was obtained from the driver, although no arrests have been made at this point. The investigation is ongoing.”
