The suspect was arrested and charged by the PhuthaditjhabaFamily, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit.
This comes after his wife opened a case on behalf of their granddaughter, who was allegedly raped by him.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer, Mmako Mophiringconfirmed the alleged incident has been happening since February 2022 and he threatened to kill her if she tells anyone.
“On Saturday 12 November 2022, the 11-year-old girl and her grandmother went to the police station to report an alleged rape by her grandfather, who allegedly raped her several times while her grandmother was away. It’s further alleged that he threatened to kill her if she spilled the beans with regard to the incident,” said Mophiring.

The affected granddaughter alleged that the reason she did notinform her grandmother about the incident was because she has been receiving death threats from her grandfather.
The suspect appeared before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate court facing a charge of rape on Monday.
Speaking to Free State Central News, Mophiring said the suspect shouldn’t be given bail for the safety of the victim.
This is a developing story.
