[BREAKING NEWS] ESKOM MOVES TO STAGE 4 LOADSHEDDING

Loadshedding

After nine days of smooth generation performance and no loadshedding, Eskom has announced the return of loadshedding due to the need to replenish emergency reserves and the expected increase in electricity demand during the upcoming cold weather.

According to Eskom, Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 today until 16:00 on Monday. Afterwards, Stage 3 loadshedding will be in effect from 16:00 until 05:00 on Tuesday, followed by Stage 2 loadshedding until 16:00. This cycle will be repeated daily until further notice.

Eskom assures that they will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes to loadshedding if necessary. Currently, there are breakdowns affecting 16,150MW of generating capacity, while 5,950MW is out of service for planned maintenance.

In the last 24 hours, repair work has been carried out on a generation unit each at Duvha, Grootvlei, Kusile, and Matimba power stations. However, a generation unit at Kriel Power Station has been successfully returned to service.

Eskom’s load forecast for the evening peak demand is 24,824MW, with Monday’s anticipated peak demand expected to reach 27,557MW. In light of this, Eskom appeals to the public to continue reducing electricity demand by switching off non-essential appliances.

They also remind people to practice energy efficiency, including switching off geysers and pool pumps from 17:00 to 21:00, as it helps alleviate pressure on the power system and contributes to lower stages of loadshedding.
