In a thrilling Major League Soccer (MLS) encounter on 29 September 2024, Lionel Messi added yet another milestone to his legendary career by scoring his 841st career goal during Inter Miami’s 1-1 draw against Charlotte FC. The Argentine superstar, known for his brilliance and consistency, showcased his trademark magic by curling a stunning shot into the bottom corner, leveling the match after Charlotte FC had taken the lead earlier in the second half.
Charlotte opened the scoring in the 56th minute with a goal from Karol Świderski. However, Messi’s equalizer came soon after, a vintage left-footed strike from just outside the penalty box that left the Charlotte goalkeeper with no chance. Despite Messi’s goal, Inter Miami couldn’t capitalize further, settling for a draw in their third consecutive winless match, which has slightly jeopardized their pursuit of the Supporters’ Shield as the season nears its end.
Messi, who returned from an injury, showed no signs of rust and even debuted a fresh celebration, drawing inspiration from Marvel’s Iron Man. His “Iron Man” pose after scoring the equalizer sent social media abuzz, adding a new chapter to his long history of memorable moments on the pitch.
While Messi continues to dazzle with his performances, Inter Miami will need to regroup quickly if they are to keep their title hopes alive with only a few games remaining in the regular season. With Messi’s leadership and ability to deliver under pressure, Miami still has a fighting chance in their race for MLS glory.
