Limpopo police have confirmed that a case of seven counts of murder has been opened after a man shot and killed seven of his family members in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Christmas morning in the Jimmy Jones village in the Vhembe District.

According to police spokesperson Busisiwe Khuzwayo, the dispute was due to the man not wanting the children of his late brother to stay in the house of their late father.

“As a result, the suspect called a family member and allegedly said to him that he does not want any of children to enter the premises.”

Khuzwayo says the family members were then called and suggested to the suspect that a meeting be arranged to resolve the matter.

“Then the suspect went to the said premises, then one of the sons of the deceased brother arrived a while later.

“The suspect then shot the son, then the brother, the brother’s wife who has heavily pregnant, their two kids and two other children who died en route to the hospital.”

The suspect was later arrested after he handed himself over to police in Thohoyandou.

“The firearm that was allegedly used in the shooting was also seized,” adds Khuzwayo.@jacarandanews
