By Thys Khiba – The Land Party has condemned the killing of South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, who was gunned down on Florida Road in Morningside at Durban’s Florida on Friday night after 10pm.
A friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane has been shot dead too, while his bodyguard was also wounded.
“AKA was not just an artist but a conscious artist, he was a revolutionary who stood up for students during the ‘ FEES MUST FALL’ protest,” said Land Party SA Chief Leader Gcobani Ndzongana.
The party viewed his sudden death a loss for his family, nation and those who stood up for justice and freedom.
The rapper donated R100 000 to students at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) in solidarity over protests and handed out food from McDonald’s to affected students at Wits’ Great Hall.
Ndzongana said ‘AKA’ was as a social justice activist and his sudden death is a tragedy to the destitute masses and the working class.
“South Africa lost a great talent, SUPAMEGA, BOVA, and the best rapper and hip-hop producer. Our sincere condolences to his parents, family, daughter, loved ones, fans, and the people of South Africa,” Ndzongana said.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed police in KwaZulu Natal are investigating two counts of murder following the murder of two men who are aged 34 and 35 years old.
“Information at police’s disposal at this stage indicate that the men were walking towards their vehicle from a restaurant when they were allegedly approached by two armed suspects who walked to them from across the street and shot the victims at close range. The suspects are reported to have fled from the scene on foot,” said Netshiunda.
Police have indicated that the motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage and police investigations are ongoing.
