Minister Ronald Lamola Leads South Africa’s Humanitarian Delegation at High-Level Gaza Conference
Justice and Constitutional Development Minister, Ronald Lamola, is set to lead a prominent South African delegation to the “Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response to Gaza” conference. The high-stakes event will take place on Tuesday in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, reflecting South Africa’s ongoing commitment to addressing the grave humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Focus on Humanitarian Aid for Gaza
The High-Level Conference aims to “articulate the minimum requirements for ensuring sustained, predictable, and sufficient supplies of humanitarian assistance reach Gaza via land and sea routes,” in alignment with Security Council Resolution 2720 (2023). This strategic meeting underscores the international community’s concerted efforts to uphold the urgent needs of the Gaza population.
“The conference will also outline the minimum requirements for ensuring conducive conditions for the safe and effective distribution of aid inside Gaza, safeguarding civilians and humanitarian staff,” the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development explained in a statement.
Key Figures and Global Leadership
The conference will be co-chaired by notable leaders, including His Majesty King Abdullah Il bin Al Hussein of Jordan, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. Their presence highlights the global significance of the event and the collective responsibility to address the humanitarian needs in Gaza.
South Africa’s Dedication to Peace and Justice
Minister Lamola emphasised, “South Africa remains committed to advancing efforts to find a coordinated and sustainable solution to the dire situation in Palestine. Addressing and ending the large-scale suffering of the people of Gaza is of utmost importance to the country.”
The South African government has consistently advocated for peace in Gaza, demonstrating a steadfast determination to seek justice through international legal channels. “We are dedicated to upholding universal human rights and supporting the Palestinian people’s right to sovereignty, peace, and a secure life,” added Lamola.
