The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, has extended his congratulations to Ambassador Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas on her recent appointment as Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. Ambassador Lucas has been instrumental in strengthening the diplomatic ties between South Africa and Mozambique.
Minister Lamola expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Minister Lucas to further enhance the robust fraternal relations between the two nations. This sentiment underscores the mutual commitment to fostering regional cooperation and development.
Ambassador Lucas’s diplomatic career is marked by significant contributions. She joined Mozambique’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1981 and has since held various pivotal roles. Notably, she served as Mozambique’s Ambassador to Spain, where she presented her credentials in 2021.  In 2023, she was appointed as the High Commissioner of Mozambique to South Africa, based in Pretoria.  Her extensive experience also includes serving as Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation from 2017. 
In a recent development, President Daniel Chapo of Mozambique appointed Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, reflecting confidence in her capabilities to lead Mozambique’s foreign relations.
