In a significant move to combat gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli is set to launch the “GBVF Mobile App” at the Durban University of Technology on Thursday. 
App Features and Objectives
The GBVF Mobile App aims to enhance the province’s efforts against GBVF by improving access to emergency assistance, legal support, and awareness campaigns. It will serve as a crucial tool in strengthening the province’s efforts against GBVF by improving access to emergency assistance, legal support, and awareness campaigns. 
Government’s Commitment
This initiative aligns with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s declaration of GBV as a national pandemic, highlighting the urgent need for innovative solutions to address the crisis. Premier Ntuli emphasized the provincial government’s dedication to utilizing technology to create safer communities and ensure swift intervention in GBVF cases. 
Community Engagement
The launch will also introduce Gender-Based Violence Ambassadors from various districts across KwaZulu-Natal. These ambassadors will serve as community representatives, furthering the fight against GBVF at the grassroots level. 
Background
KwaZulu-Natal ranks fourth in reported rape cases nationally. Between October and December 2024, over 2,000 GBV and femicide cases were reported in the eThekwini municipality alone.
