On December 28, 2024, KLM flight KL1204, a Boeing 737-800, encountered a significant setback shortly after takeoff from Oslo, Norway, en route to Amsterdam. The flight, carrying 176 passengers and 6 crew members, experienced a hydraulic failure, leading to an emergency diversion to Sandefjord Airport Torp (TRF). During the emergency landing, the aircraft veered off the runway, skidding onto the grass. Despite the incident, there were no major injuries reported.

The incident unfolded when the pilots noticed a malfunction in the aircraft’s hydraulic system at an altitude of approximately 4,900 feet. The decision was made to divert to the nearest suitable airport, Sandefjord Airport Torp, which is equipped to handle emergency landings. The aircraft, identified by its call sign PH-BZC, made a successful emergency landing but overran the runway during the process.

Aviation authorities, including the Norwegian Civil Aviation Administration, have initiated an investigation into the cause of the hydraulic failure. Preliminary reports suggest that the issue might have originated from a mechanical fault within the hydraulic system, but further analysis is required to confirm this. The aircraft’s black box has been seized for detailed examination.
Passenger and Crew Safety:
All passengers and crew were safely evacuated from the aircraft. Emergency services were quick to respond, with no reports of major injuries, although some passengers reported minor bruises. The passengers were later transported to Oslo by road, and alternative flights were arranged for their onward journey to Amsterdam.

KLM has issued a statement expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers and assuring full cooperation with the investigation. The airline has also stated that the affected aircraft will remain grounded pending the outcome of the investigation and necessary repairs.
