By Thys Khiba – Kidnapped Nkangala District municipal manager Margaret Skosana and her driver Gugu Mtsweni were found in Diepsloot on Wednesday 26 October.

Police spokesperson Colonel Doland Mdhluli confirmed the two were dumped by their assailants in the bushes near the N14 Road in Diepsloot.

“It is said that the driver was tied with some ropes but she somehow managed to maneuver to the road whereby a taxi driver saw her as she was looking for help. She then related the story to the taxi driver who then immediately informed the police,” said Mdhluli.

The police officials found Skosana in the bushes. Mtsweni and Skosana reunited with their families in the early hours of this morning, Thursday after being taken to hospital.

This is after District Municipality in Mpumalanga confirmed the alleged kidnapping of Skosana and her personal driver Mtswenion Thursday morning, 20 October.

Reports confirmed that the incident took place in front of the municipal gates, when the two victims were stopped by suspects in a white sedan.

The municipality indicated a criminal case has been opened with the relevant law enforcement agencies.

“A criminal case has been opened with the Middelburg SAPS and the investigations are underway. It is our firm belief that they will be both found in due course,” said municipal spokesperson LM Mabuza.

Mabuza advised that police officials should be allowed to do their job and investigations unhindered.

Mabuza sent a message of encouragement to the affected families.

“May the Almighty give Nkangala District Municipality and the Skosana and Mtsweni families’ strength in these trying times.”

Mabuza urged all of us to remain calm and give the authorities space to resolve this difficult situation.

“Soon after the incident was reported, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela immediately assembled resources then established an investigation team consisting of experts in the field of investigation to ensure that the two victims are brought back safe and alive,” said Mdhluli.

The victim’s vehicle was recovered on the same day [20 October 2022] abandoned in one of the surrounding mines in Middelburg.

Mdhluli indicated that the wheelchair as well as other properties of the victims were also found together with the abandoned vehicle.
